arts on the avenue
back in the spring i signed up to participate in 'arts on the avenue' in ladysmith. by late july i decided to cancel my registration as i didn't really have any artwork available. before i sent my email i called my sister for her voice of reason, and she assured me I could do this. with her encouragement, i walked into my studio, closed the big sliding barn door behind me and started painting. this is what i came up with. these paintings and more are available for sale along with art cards, this sunday, august 25th in lovely downtown ladysmith. grateful to my sister kim, and big shout out to my dear friend and fellow artist tt (trishaoldfield.com) for being so helpful on every level in preparing for this event.
two blue [8x8] acrylic on canvas SOLD
my morning begins with strong coffee in these cups, and of course silver spoons to stir in lots of cream.
nice bun [8x8] acrylic on canvas
cheeky title. seriously good cinnamon buns.
another conversation [20x24] acrylic on canvas SOLD
our family loves converse runners. cool, classic and comfortable.
cuba libre [8x8] acrylic on canvas SOLD
just sounds better than rum & coke. quintessential summertime beverage.
summer gathering [12x24] acrylic on canvas

my youngest's flip flops and lazy summer afternoon shadows.

timeless combination.
shucked [12x12] acrylic on canvas SOLD
i think one of the reasons we moved to sunny saltair is because we can pick oysters right off our beach.
a pair [8x8] acrylic on canvas SOLD
pears are beautiful. simple as that.
forkestra [16x16] acrylic on canvas SOLD
i will never tire of painting this combination, the light, the shadow, the endless shades of grey.
hope for the future
soup's on [16x16] acrylic on canvas SOLD
i painted this for a fundraiser supporting Nepal Education Fund (www.nepaledfund.ca). this is a small privately run charity that provides education to impoverished children and we're proud to support them.
foodies unite
have your cake [20x24] acrylic on canvas SOLD
this is a commonly requested birthday cake in our home. sometimes when we're eating dessert, i'll start taking photos of it half eaten. there's something appealing to me about food caught in the process of being enjoyed.
roll with it [12x24] acrylic on canvas SOLD
one of our favourite dinners is 'make your own sushi'. just cover the table with every possible sushi filling and go for it (or roll with it).
russian porcelain [8x10] acrylic on canvas SOLD
we started growing garlic a few years ago. i love this variety. when you open it up, the colour is an unexpected surprise.
the mighty caesar [11x14] acrylic on canvas SOLD
the adults in our family take their caesars seriously. they are big, spicy and filled with a variety of seasonal ingredients. i'm honoured to have this painting and my parisienne poisson in the art collection of friends sandi and scott.
think outside the shell [12x12] acrylic on canvas
i think eggs are one of the most perfect foods and i'm grateful to have a flock of hens that provide us with them daily.
themed art shows
the decision [3 10x10] acrylic on linen
themed art shows are a great way to paint something you might not typically paint. the 'rock paper scissors' show at ladysmith waterfront gallery was a fun one.
fish heads
parisienne poisson [12x24] acrylic on canvas SOLD
i've always been drawn to the beauty of fish heads - weird i know but they're so colourful and fun. i painted the fish first and couldn't decide what to place in the background, then i thought, these fish belong in paris.
interior design
guarding louis [16x20] acrylic on canvas
one of my passions is interior design. i especially love iconic chairs and thought it would be fun to do a series of birds on chairs. this was my first, more to come.
christmas cards
twelve days [12 8x8] acrylic on canvas NFS
with the exception of a few years, i've painted a christmas card every year since my girls were babies. this was a particularly popular one.
sidney fine art show
all three of these paintings were accepted into the 'sidney fine arts show' and sold.
conversation [16x20] acrylic on canvas SOLD
this is a common sight at my front door. the late afternoon light made them come to life.
spooning [18x24] acrylic on canvas SOLD
i wanted to call this 'forking' but wasn't sure if i would
offend anyone.
dinner party [20x24] acrylic on canvas SOLD
a stack of plates on our counter is a sure indication of company coming or a celebration in the works. with all the windows and different lighting in our home a simple stack of plates can be very dramatic!
use the good silver every day

introduction to ladysmith waterfront gallery
on my birthday a few years ago a good friend hosted a champagne & cake celebration for me. someone asked when I was going to start showing my work. i said 'ironically today is the last day for submissions to a juried art show at the ladysmith waterfront gallery'. with a little encouragement (ok she drove me home, went through my studio looking for paintings to submit and filled out the entry form), this was the start of new journey for me (<3 michelle). I completed these three paintings over the weekend and two were accepted. i was also introduced to an amazing group of inspiring women at this little jewel of a gallery.
and then there were three [12x12] acrylic on canvas SOLD
my youngest daughter Bella was asked by her teacher to show what her mommy did for work. she drew a picture of me painting and wrote 'my mommy works in an office and paints cherries'. i loved this!
ladies man [16x16] acrylic on canvas
i have a rooster with attitude. and i love him.
we be jammin' [16x16] acrylic on canvas SOLD
this was an image inspired from a european home magazine. i loved the way light played on the jars and the 'messiness' of it.
foodie inspiration
au chocolat [16x16] acrylic on linen NFS
this image was inspired by a cover of gourmet magazine. in addition to being a foodie, i'm a huge fan of food photographer romulo yanes who took this photo. this image can be found on the cover of the CECS cookbook.
supportive sister
cherries [12x12] acrylic on canvas NFS
my sister (also an artist) found this study i did on my studio floor one day and placed it on the wall in my kitchen. it's always been one of my favourites.
well it's official...
...I'm a blogger! after being asked countless times about my website (of which I still havn't set up!) I decided to set up a blog for people inquiring about my work. enjoy!
